The Nigeria Women Football League has announced that the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six Finals will be staged in the oil-rich city of Port Harcourt for the very first time.

The season-ending championship tournament is scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 14, 2026, with six of the country’s top women’s clubs battling for the prestigious league crown in what promises to be another thrilling finale to the NWFL Premiership campaign.

Confirming the development, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi said the decision reflects the league’s commitment to expanding elite women’s football across Nigeria while acknowledging the support the Rivers State Government has shown toward the women’s game.

According to Shabi, Rivers State successfully hosted the league’s Annual General Assembly last October, making Port Harcourt a fitting venue for the flagship competition.

The tournament will feature defending champions Bayelsa Queens alongside Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and debutants Abia Angels.

The six clubs emerged as the top three teams from Groups A and B of the regular season and will compete in a round-robin format, with each side playing five matches over a nine-day period.

The NWFL Premiership has witnessed different champions in recent seasons, underlining the competitiveness of the women’s top flight.

Rivers Angels claimed the title in 2021, while Bayelsa Queens lifted the trophy in 2022 and 2025. Delta Queens emerged champions in 2023 before Edo Queens triumphed in 2024.

Shabi also urged all participating clubs to maintain professionalism and comply strictly with competition regulations and schedules throughout the tournament.

Beyond determining the league champions, the Super Six will also decide Nigeria’s representative at the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and ultimately the 2027 FIFA Women’s Club Championship.

Activities for the competition will begin on June 5 with the arrival of teams, draws and the pre-match meeting, while Matchday One kicks off on June 6 with three fixtures.

The tournament will conclude on June 14 with the final round of matches and the trophy presentation ceremony.
