Amoah blazes to season’s best ahead of African Championships

Ghanaian sprint star Joseph Paul Amoah has sent a strong warning to rivals ahead of the 24th Senior Confederation of African Athletics Championships after storming to victory in the men’s 100m at the Cal State LA Twilight Open.
The 29-year-old clocked an impressive season’s best of 10.01 seconds, powering past compatriot Benjamin Azamati, who settled for second in 10.20 seconds in a race that underlined Ghana’s growing sprint depth.
It was Amoah’s second outdoor outing of the season, building on a wind-assisted 10.05 seconds performance the previous week, and signals a steady rise in form as the continental showpiece approaches.
Traditionally a 200m specialist and African Games champion over the distance, Amoah is now sharpening his 100m credentials.
The Ghanaian is reportedly focusing on improving his start and race execution, fuelling speculation of a possible switch to the shorter sprint at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
The tactical shift could prove decisive, with Amoah aiming to maximise his medal chances on the global stage.
Both Amoah and Azamati are expected to lead Ghana’s charge at the African Championships next month at the Legon Sports Stadium, where their form will be crucial to the country’s medal ambitions.
