Newly elected Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), Senior High Chief Tony Akiotu, has pledged to lead an inclusive, forward-looking administration focused on sustainability, digital transition, and industry growth.

Akiotu made the commitment on Wednesday in his acceptance speech following his election as BON chairman, describing his victory as a collective mandate that reflects the trust of members across the organisation.

He thanked stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, stressing that the responsibility of leading BON would be approached with humility and a strong sense of duty.

The chairman also acknowledged his co-contestant, Raymond Dokpesi Jr., noting that both camps share a common commitment to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria.

Akiotu paid tribute to past leaders and pioneers of the industry, including the late High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, for their contributions to the growth of radio and television broadcasting in the country.

He assured members that his leadership would be open and inclusive, giving equal voice to all stakeholders, regardless of size or ownership structure.

According to him, key priorities of his administration will include strengthening the sustainability of broadcast institutions, supporting the transition to digital broadcasting, enhancing professional skills, and promoting collaboration within the industry.

Akiotu also commended the outgoing executive committee for laying a solid foundation, promising to build on their achievements with renewed energy and cooperation.

He expressed appreciation to his supporters, campaign team, and associates for their contributions to his emergence as chairman, dedicating the victory to all BON members and the Nigerian media industry.

The BON chairman further called for unity among members, urging them to work together to advance the organisation and position it as a leading voice in the evolving media landscape.
