The Executive Director of Sports Development and Operations, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere, sees a very bright future for sports in the Heartbeat Nation, Edo State.

She described the State's sporting scene as one that's in line for unparalleled greatness, ever witnessed in the history of Nigerian Sports.

She gave this verdict in an exclusive interview with FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG's Oluwatobiloba Zeal-Adepetu Kumoye, as the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator, Monday Okpebholo, pledged his resolute and undivided support for Edo State Sports Commission.

Mrs Sabina Chikere expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation for the support the Governor has been given to the sports in the State, emphasizing that it's results will be there for all to see.

Governor Okpebholo promised that his administration will nurture and invest in young sporting talents following Edo State’s victory at the second edition of the Niger Delta Games tagged Edo 2026.

The governor made this promise while receiving the champions’ trophy during a grand reception held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, in honour of Team Edo for emerging overall winners of the regional sporting tournament.

Mrs. Chikere, a seasoned sports administrator who was the brain behind the flawless Screening Committee during the games, thanked the governor for fulfilling the promise he made to the Team.

Team Edo got ₦30 million reward from the State government for their achievement.

She stated that from every corner of the State and Nigeria at large the success story of the state will be told and it will serve as an inspiration to other states.

Governor Okpebholo congratulated the athletes, coaches, and sports administrators for their dedication and discipline, which culminated in Edo State finishing at the top of the medals table.

He emphasized that the victory reflects the enormous sporting potential within the state and the determination of his administration to reposition the state as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.

“Congratulations to my dear state, Edo State, for the victory at the second Niger Delta Games hosted here in Edo. Some of our athletes will represent Nigeria in future Olympic Games,” the governor predicted.

Mrs. Chikere, who remains a household name in the historic and cultural city, showered praises in the sports loving Governor for remaining a firm pillar in the sporting firmament.
