One of the most influential scrabble statesmen and Executive Member of WESPA, Chief Olobatoke Aka, has described the Niger Delta Games as the breeding ground for champions and the hub of sports development.

He hailed the Organisers of the highly esteemed event for putting together one of the most organised, competitive and seamless events in recent years.

He made this submission in an exclusive interview with FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG's Oluwatobiloba Zeal-Adepetu Kumoye, emphasizing these are the type of events and competitions sports needs in Nigeria to grow.

“I would say that the event has been wonderful, because within the few days I have been here, I took a tour of the stadium and the various facilities and I must say this is the key to the revival of sports in Nigeria. If all the zones follow suit, create their own games like this, Nigerian sports will not remain the same,” he said.

Chief Aka, who is the immediate past President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, (NSF), also expressed his satisfaction and excitement in the turnout of young wordsmith at the Scrabble event of the Games.

He added that at the speed at which Scrabble develops, we will be calling the shots, dictating the pace and rhythm of the word game on the globe, because we will always have a new crop of players to carry on the Scrabble legacy.

“In the Scrabble firmament, this is where we first discovered Sophia Ekeruche, before she went for the National Championship, the West Africa Championship, the African Championship and the World Championship, this is just one individual whom the Games has helped us to discover,” he stated.

He urged the Organisers of the historic event to keep the pace stressing that the event has proven to be a big time game changer, and the key to sports development in the region.
