The medals may have been won on the tracks and courts, but on Wednesday night, the spotlight shifts to the stage as comedy heavyweight Okey Bakassi leads an all-star cast at the Cultural Expo Night of the 2nd Niger Delta Games.

After six days of fierce competition, young athletes from across the region will trade sweat for laughter at the Cathelea Convention Centre on February 25, as the Games serve up a different kind of spectacle, one powered by rhythm, punchlines and pure entertainment.

Headlining the comedy lineup is Okey Bakassi, born Okechukwu McAnthony, whose razor-sharp wit is expected to light up the arena.

He won’t be alone. Fellow crowd-pullers Seyi Law, Jikume, MC Porcupyne and G-Flex are set to keep the energy high in a night carefully curated to celebrate the spirit of the Games beyond medals and podium finishes.

On the music front, Niger Delta’s hitmaker Harrysong takes centre stage, bringing his signature sound to an audience of battle-tested athletes ready to unwind.

He will be joined by fast-rising Daniel Edoreh, popularly known as Danielo, in a lineup designed to keep the beats rolling deep into the night.

The Cultural Expo, anchored by Entertainment Committee chairman Edi Lawani, will also feature DJ Wikki, MC Casino, Ikpa Udo, DJ Masked Queen and DJ Sunny Dread.

Dance performances, a fashion parade and a variety contest will give athletes the chance to swap jerseys for microphones and showcase their talents off the field.

For Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, Lead Consultant at Dunamis-Icon Limited, organisers of the Games, the entertainment showcase is no afterthought.

“The primary reason for bringing these young ones together is sports,” Ikpokpo said.

“But we also want them to learn ordeliness through the choreographed opening ceremony and now experience leisure and relaxation through quality entertainment.”

Sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission and powered by Dunamis-Icon Limited, the 2nd Niger Delta Games which began on February 20 have blended competition with culture in a celebration of youth, unity and regional pride.

On Wednesday night, however, the cheers won’t be for goals or gold. They’ll be for jokes that land, songs that resonate and a region that knows how to win on and off the field.
