Enabulele opens camp, demands discipline ahead of Niger Delta Games
Team Edo has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of the 2026 Niger Delta Games, with Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Honourable Amadin Desmond Enabulele, officially declaring the athletes’ camp open.
The Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission also issued a clear warning, discipline or nothing.
At the GRA camp in Benin on Tuesday, February 10, Enabulele fired up athletes and coaches as preparations intensified for the Games scheduled to kick off on February 20, 2026.
The message was loud and clear, Edo are not hosting just to participate; they are hosting to win.
“From today, you are ambassadors of Edo State,” Enabulele told the athletes. “You were selected because you are already winners. But without discipline and commitment, talent means nothing.”
The 12-day camping programme, designed to sharpen focus and boost performance, comes with what the chairman described as top-notch facilities and unprecedented welfare.
According to him, the state government has done its part, now the athletes must deliver.
“We have provided the best camping environment and allowances you have never received before,” he said. “I believe a happy athlete performs better. We are giving you the best, so you must also give Edo State your best.”
Determined to rewrite history, Enabulele challenged Team Edo to improve on previous outings where the state finished with an abundance of silver and bronze medals.
“This time, we must change the narrative,” he stressed. “Those silvers and bronzes must turn to gold. As the host state, we are working to win.”
Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Basketball Head Coach Victor Umoru praised the Sports Commission’s leadership, promising total commitment from Team Edo.
“Only an ungrateful person will not appreciate what this management is doing,” Umoru said. “Mr Chairman, we are grateful, and we assure you, winning is the only way we can repay this support.”
Beyond words, Enabulele backed his confidence with action, leading an inspection tour of key facilities being upgraded for the Games.
After visiting the Basketball and Volleyball courts at Wire Road and the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, he expressed satisfaction with the progress.
“The upgrades are about 90 percent complete,” he noted. “The tennis courts and indoor halls are fully ready, and the swimming pool is in good shape. We are ready.”
With athletes already in camp and facilities nearing completion, Edo State is clearly setting the pace.
As the countdown to the Niger Delta Games continues, one thing is sure and certain, Team Edo are locked in, loaded, and hungry for gold.
