Young and promising Edo State athlete, Emmanuel Audu Shakamomodu, on Sunday clinched a second medal for Team Edo at the 2nd Niger Delta Games, ongoing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

It was a day to remember for Audu Shakamomodu, as he once again proved why he is the foundation of Team Edo's shot put and Hammer youth Team.

Despite the victory, expressed disappointment in his throws stating that he could have done better.

“It was okay, but I just felt that I could have done better and there is still room for improvement.

“Although I would say I slacked off a little bit but there is room for improvement so I just have to go back, work on my technique, perfect it and come back better.”

He stated that next on the chart for him is the World U-20 Championship at Oregon as he eyes international glory.

“So for now I'm preparing for the World U-20 at Oregon, so I think for now the plan is to get back in training, train hard, work on my technique and meet up with the requirement. I think the distance required is 18.30m, although I know I'm capable of doing it, even going higher than that but for now I just need to to like work on it, go back train hard and come back better.”

He called on Nigerian sports lovers and stakeholders to tune in to Shakamomodu on radio, T.V and online as he is on track for sporting success.

“They should expect the best because I'm going to be doing great things,” he said.

He further stated that for him the name Emmanuel has proven to be a rich source of strength and inspiration whenever he is called to represent his state.

“We all know that the name Emmanuel means ‘God Is With Us’. Anytime I step out . When you hear the name you just know that God is with us and obviously with God al things are possible. With God we can do great things, when he is by your side and you know he is for you.”

Audu Emmanuel Shakamomodu also won Gold in Hammer Throw with 41.57m

"It was a bit challenging," says Audu, "I aimed to throw above 41.57m, but it just didn't happen. But thank God history repeated itself.”
