RSC Anderlecht has been forced into an unexpected reset after Edward Still stepped down as head coach, barely 24 hours after the club’s painful defeat to Genk on matchday 24 of the Belgian Pro League.

The decision, which caught many by surprise, has triggered a swift response from the club hierarchy as they look to steady the ship at a crucial stage of the season.

Still, one of the league’s youngest coaches, opted to resign following growing pressure after recent results. His departure leaves Anderlecht fourth on the table with 36 points, still firmly in the hunt, but with little margin for error as the campaign intensifies.

In response, the club has turned inward. Former Anderlecht defender Jérémy Taravel has been handed the reins on an interim basis, a move that signals trust in familiarity and continuity.

Taravel is widely regarded as a strong locker-room presence and a “man of the house,” someone who understands the club’s culture and expectations.

To support him, Anderlecht has bolstered the technical bench with additional experience. Naïm Aarab has been drafted in to temporarily reinforce the first-team staff, adding tactical insight and stability.

Joining him is Arnaud Djoum, the current U-16 coach, who now steps up to the senior squad. For Djoum, a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner, the appointment marks a significant new chapter in his coaching journey.

The trio face an immediate challenge of maintaining unity and focus within a squad still reeling from managerial upheaval. Results, however, will be the ultimate measure.

That test arrives quickly. Anderlecht welcome La Louvière in their next league fixture, a match that now carries added significance.

Beyond the three points on offer, it will serve as the first real indicator of how the new technical setup can galvanize the team under pressure.

All eyes will be on the dugout as Taravel, Djoum, and their colleagues attempt to inject fresh energy and direction.

In a season where stability can define success, Anderlecht’s response to this sudden change may well shape the remainder of their campaign.
