Team Nigeria delivered yet another electrifying statement on the global stage as para powerlifting icon Alice Folashade Owolabi Oluwafemiayo powered her way to a commanding gold medal in the women’s heavyweight event at the 6th Solidarity Games which ends today in Riyadh.
Owolabi-Oluwafemiayo, already one of the most feared and respected names in world para powerlifting, proved once again why she wears the crown. With poise, precision and raw Nigerian strength, she dominated the field to finish atop the podium, lifting the dual colour high and reaffirming Nigeria’s status as a powerhouse in the sport.
Behind her, Uzbekistan’s Kudratoy Toshpulatova fought hard for silver, while Jordan’s Asma Issa claimed bronze. But the day undeniably belonged to Nigeria.
This victory adds another jewel to Team Nigeria’s fine outing at the Games, where the athletes have shown grit, consistency and world-class execution across events.
The delegation under the dynamic leadership of the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade, has impressed with their discipline and competitive edge, earning praise from international officials and rival teams alike.
With Owolabi-Oluwafemiayo’s triumph, Nigeria not only tightens its grip on its traditional strength in para powerlifting but also sends a powerful message ahead of subsequent global championships in 2026–2028 Team Nigeria is here, hungry, and unstoppable.
Riyadh 2025 ends, but the echoes of Nigeria’s anthem, powered by a golden lift, linger loudly.
