AFN calls on all Nigerians to support Team Nigeria Athletics to the World Championship

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), has called on all Nigerians to support Team Nigeria Athletics as they intensify their final preparations for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan later this month.

The Federation made this passionate appeal on Sunday evening shortly after making public the list of 15 athletes who will represent Nigeria at the World Athletics Championships which starts on the 13th of this month.

President of the Federation,Chief Tonobok Okowa said; “We call on all Nigerians to rally behind our team as they prepare to showcase our nation's athletic prowess on the global stage. Together, we shall continue to write new chapters in Nigeria's rich athletics heritage.”

The team made public on Sunday is made up of 7 female and 8 male athletes, who will compete for honours in 11 events at the biannual competition.

Chief Tonobok Okowa, who is also the President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Region 2 went on to state that the AFN Board and the entire Nigerian athletics community have immense confidence in this team. 

“We believe these athletes are not only ready to compete against the best in the world but are also poised to challenge for podium finishes and elevate our beloved nation on the global stage.”

The athletics governing led by Chief Tonobok Okowa, also had some pleasant words for all athletics stakeholders, the National Sports Commission, coaches and sponsors.

“Your unwavering support continues to be instrumental in Nigerian athletics' growth and success,” Okowa a former Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission said.

“We are keeping a close watch on all the athletes selected to represent Nigeria as they embark on the final stage of their preparation with their various coaches,” Okowa concluded.

These are the members of Team Nigeria to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
