FFM abolishes mandatory participation fee for second-tier clubs

The Football Federation of North Macedonia (FFM) has taken a huge step in supporting clubs further down its pyramid by abolishing a mandatory fee to participate in the Second Macedonian Football League (2.MLF).

Over the last 15 years, clubs in the professional 16-team second tier have been required to pay a fee of around €128,000 per season, but that is all set to change thanks to a proposal put forward by FFM President Masar Omeragić.

“The Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) has taken an important decision to abolish the registration fee for participation in the Second Macedonian Football League,” the Federation confirmed.

“This decision, taken at the initiative of FFM President Masar Omeragić, represents a significant step forward towards creating better working conditions for clubs, financial relief and promoting the competition.

“The total financial amount from which clubs are exempted with this measure is €128,000 per competition season, which represents direct support and strengthening of their stability.”

The move will, however, leave the FFM with a shortfall of just over €2million per season going forward. The 2.MLF season kicks-off this weekend with eight matches scheduled to take place on Saturday 23 August.
