Bulgarian FA counters media reports saying no-one is unpaid

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) has reacted angrily to reports in the Bulgarian media that the FA owes money to players called up to play for the national team.

The BFU issued an official statement saying it does not owe any money to “players, institutions, companies, etc.”

The statement also says that the Bulgarian Football Union is in “excellent financial condition.”

“In connection with publications in the media that the Bulgarian Football Union has unpaid call-ups to football players from the representative national team, we categorically state that the BFU has no obligations to anyone, including players, institutions, companies, etc,” said the BFU.

“The football headquarters is in excellent financial condition, and for the last year there was an additional income of BGN 7 million (€3.5 million) to the budget compared to the previous year. Against this background, the BFU has concluded several sponsorship contracts in recent months, as a result of which the clubs from the Mr Bit Second League will receive financial assistance in the amount of BGN 800,000 (€400 000).

“Any other publications and statements in the media related to the financial condition of the BFU are manipulative and do not correspond to the actual situation of the headquarters,” concludes the statement.
