Ogun's record-breaking Kolade Otunla, shines at men's swimming

Ripping swimming spectacle, and record-breaker, Team Ogun’s Kolade Otunla, made history in the men’s 100m backstroke at the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games, taking place in art and culture capital, Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria.

Kolade Otunla secured a gold medal in palatial style shattering the previous record set in 2018 with a stunning time of 1:02 minutes.

This rip-roaring performance not only secured a 2.5 million Naira reward but also confirmed Otunla’s place as one of the top swimmers to come out from the Giants of Africa.  

The Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State, Honourable Isiaka Wasiu, was left speechless by Otunla's impressive performance, stating that his performance is not just noteworthy but superlative.

He explained this win is the fruits of support from the Ogun State Government, and the intensive training Team Ogun athletes were put through.

The Commissioner went on to add that Team Ogun athletes have not just made the Ogun State Government proud, but also sealed the Gateway state's position as a sporting powerhouse, in Nigeria.

He also heaped praises on fans and sports lovers, who stormed the stadium to support Team Ogun athletes at the sports feast.
