The FIBA Africa Zone 3 Academies Championship is an initiative aimed at fostering grassroots basketball development within the region. In a letter dated February 12, 2025, and signed by Elder Toba Shinkaye, Vice Chairman of the Warriors Management Committee, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) was formally notified of the academy’s intention to stage the tournament. Steve Cole, who was also the immediate past Vice Chairman Delta State Football Association died in the early hours of Sunday in Benin City during a brief illness.
