SPFL renews licensing deal with EA SPORTS FC ahead of 2026 release

The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has agreed a new multi-year licensing deal with EA SPORTS FC ahead of the release of its new title, FC26, on the September 26 – a deal which will include all top-flight SPFL clubs.

Rangers’ OIbrox Stadium and Celtic’s home ground, Celtic Park, will also be included in the game as playable arenas. The game will also include Falkirk FC’s first appearance in 15 years following their promotion to the top-flight of Scottish football.

According to data, SPFL teams were used in 16 million matches during last year’s iteration of the game, EA SPORTS FC 25.

With FC26 expecting to build on these numbers, it makes it a no-brainier for leagues to bid for official licensing. This helps both parties: the SPFL will gain increased exposure from one of the best-selling games worldwide whilst EA Sports has license to create a more authentic product which appeals to a broader audience, particularly in Scotland.

Securing official licensing will give the SPFL an expanded digital footprint that helps it keep pace with other top European leagues, with more young football fans than ever learning through gaming.

For EA Sports, keeping another league’s licensing under its belt will help it continue to stave off rivals such as Konami’s eFootball or Cristiano Ronaldo’s UFL.

Neil Doncaster, SPFL Group Chief Executive, said: “Many Scottish football supporters have grown up playing the EA SPORTS’ games, so it’s great to announce we’re continuing our agreement with such a well-loved video game franchise.

“This new deal helps bring our league to new generations of supporters right across the world, and it’s positive to hear how popular our teams have been with players across the globe.”
“We’re proud to continue our partnership with the SPFL, a league defined by passion, history and unforgettable rivalries,” said James Taylor, Director of Football Partnerships at EA SPORTS FC.

“This agreement celebrates the strength of Scottish football fandom and ensures that players everywhere can experience those rivalries and traditions in the most authentic way possible through EA SPORTS FC.”
