Ghana names 30 athletes for CAA Region 2 Championship

...Hosts to run, jump, throw for honours in 20 events
...As Team Ghana to Tokyo World Championship begins resident camping in America

Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), has named a 30 man team for the second edition of CAA Region 2 Senior Athletics Championships holding at the University of Ghana Sports Complex, Accra on the 18th and 19th of this month.
 
The team made up of 17 men and 13 women will compete for honours in 20 Events at the 2 day competition with 16 West African countries expected to participate in.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s top 7 men’s 100m sprinters have arrived in Texas, USA, for a secluded training camp at Texas A&M University–Commerce ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The camp is organized by Ghana Athletics, with close coordination and financial support from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), and facility support from Texas A&M University–Commerce. 

The athletes will be under the guidance of Coach George Pincock, head track & field coach at the university.

The seven athletes are:

• Abdul-Rasheed Saminu – 9.84s
• Benjamin Azamati – 9.98s  
• Ibrahim Fuseini – 10.03s
• Barnabas Aggerh – 10.06s
• Joseph Paul Amoah – 10.08s
• Mustapha Bokpin – 10.09s
• Isaac Botsio – 10.11s

Benjamin Azamati will join the camp on August 18 after the competition in Europe.

Only on Friday night, Benjamin Azamati blazed to victory at the 2025 Nordthüringer Leichtathletik Meeting in Sondershausen, Germany, defeating Davison Sandrey of Jamaica and South Africa's McPherson Odaine in the 100m.

Azamati not only claimed the win but also smashed the stadium record with 10.02s — breaking his own previous mark. Two records in one unforgettable night.
