In a bid to fast track and accelerate the growth of athletics in rural county in Kenya, Athletics Kenya is supporting some holiday training camps.

One of such training camps is the Kituro Under-20 Holiday Training Camp in Baringo County.

On Thursday, the Athletics Kenya Youth Development Department, led by the Director, had the honour of visiting the Kituro Under-20 Holiday Training Camp in Baringo County.

The visit was a follow up to a recent promise made to support young athletes.

The Department provided new training gear, including shoes and branded T-shirts, to the upcoming talents.

This support will help the athletes train more effectively and safely, given that many had previously been running in akala (sandals made from recycled tyres) and Crocs.

The gesture marks a small but important step toward nurturing their potential and safeguarding their wellbeing.

The Department extends sincere gratitude to County Police Commandant David Ng’etich, himself a former marathoner, for addressing the athletes.

His message of unity, discipline, and resilience resonated deeply, underscoring the role of sport in shaping character and strengthening communities.

Special appreciation also goes to Athletics Kenya (AK), Safeguarding Officer Mrs. Elizabeth Keitany and Youth Development Officer Mr. Dominic Ondieki for their dedicated efforts in coordinating the initiative.

The excitement of the children, reflected in their dancing and their heartfelt pledges to work hard for themselves and their families, was a highlight of the visit.

At Athletics Kenya, the Youth Development Department remains committed to supporting grassroots camps such as Kituro, not only in developing future champions but also in empowering communities, creating opportunities, and promoting peace through sport.
