Madugu unveils strong Falcons squad for friendlies with Cameroon ahead of WAFCON

Head Coach Justine Madugu has rolled out a formidable 25-player squad as Nigeria’s Super Falcons gear up for high-profile pre-WAFCON friendly matches against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in Yaoundé.

Leading the pack is captain Rasheedat Ajibade, alongside first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and attacking threats Esther Okoronkwo and Chinwendu Ihezuo, as the nine-time African champions fine-tune preparations for the continental tournament.

In a move that blends experience with fresh energy, Canada-based midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene returns to the fold after a lengthy absence, while U.S.-based forward Gift Monday earns a recall after missing last year’s triumphant Women AFCON campaign in Morocco.

There is also a first-ever invitation for England-based goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor, signaling Madugu’s intent to deepen competition between the sticks.

Mexico-based defender Chidinma Okeke makes a welcome return to the squad, while Tanzania-based midfielder Precious Christopher gets her maiden call-up.

The core of the team remains intact, with defensive stalwarts such as Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Ashleigh Plumptre retaining their places.

In midfield, the dependable trio of Halimatu Ayinde, Christy Ucheibe, and Jennifer Echegini will once again anchor the team, while forwards Rinsola Babajide and Folashade Ijamilusi add depth to an already potent attack.

The double-header against Cameroon is slated for February 28 and March 3 in Yaoundé, offering the Falcons a stern test against one of Africa’s fiercest rivals.

The friendlies come as a build-up to the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to hold in Morocco from March 17 to April 3.

With all four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, the stakes could not be higher.

For Madugu and his charges, Yaoundé is more than just a friendly stop, it is the first real step on the road to continental glory and another shot at global qualification.
