Nigeria forward Amy Okonkwo signs for Dallas Wings on a seven-day hardship contract

The WNBA team, the Dallas Wings, has signed DTigress forward Amy Okonkwo to a seven-day hardship contract.

According to the club, the two-time FIBA AfroBasket MVP (2023, 2025) is expected to be available for Friday's game against the Seattle Storm.

A 7-day hardship contract in the NBA is a temporary contract that allows teams to sign players when they have a significant number of players unavailable due to injury, illness, or other circumstances.

Here's a breakdown:

* Purpose: It provides teams with a way to add players to their roster quickly when they're short-handed.

* Duration: The contract lasts for seven days.

* Eligibility: Teams can only use this contract when they have a specific number of players unavailable.

* Salary: Players on hardship contracts are paid a prorated portion of the league's minimum salary.

* Flexibility: It gives teams flexibility to address short-term needs without making a long-term commitment.

* Limitations: Teams can only sign a player to a maximum of two 7-day hardship contracts. After that, they must either sign the player for the rest of the season or let them go.

In essence, it's a tool for teams to maintain a competitive roster during times of player unavailability.
